Good afternoon! It's Thursday, April 14, and today's headlines include new research on the worldviews of preteen parents, a poll revealing people's disapproval of Disney's LGBT activism aimed at children, and an interview with actress, filmmaker and media executive Roma Downey.
|
The Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University's third installment of its American Worldview Inventory provides "a detailed look at how the worldview of parents of preteens misses the mark." The survey broke respondents down into two categories: self-identified Christian parents of pre-teens and all parents of preteens. Survey results revealed that, in most cases, the views and beliefs of self-identified Christian parents of
preteens do not significantly differ from the views and beliefs of parents of preteens as a whole. While nearly one-quarter of parents of preteens view the Bible as their "primary source of moral guidance," 33% of self-identified Christian parents said the same. Similarly, 29% of parents of preteens think that the "basis of truth is God, revealed through the Bible," with self-identified Christian parents seeing a slight uptick to 38%. Additionally, 27% of parents of preteens and 23% of self-identified Christian parents "do not accept the notion that having faith matters more than which faith."

George Barna, the director of Research at the Cultural Research Center, expressed concerns about the impact that parents' embrace of a "scrambled philosophy of life" that does not reflect authentic, biblical Christianity has on their children, noting, "When children are exposed to teaching—through words or actions, whether formal or informal—that are contradictory, they naturally conclude that the Christian faith is inherently contradictory and therefore may not be what they are seeking as a life philosophy." Kentucky has passed a law that prohibits biological males from participating in girls’ sports, becoming the 15th state to do so. Senate Bill 83, the "Fairness in Women's Sports Act," would mandate that students can only participate in sports that correspond with their birth sex. Despite Democrat Gov. Andy Beshear vetoing the bill last week, the veto was overridden by the state legislature on Wednesday, with a vote of 29-8 in the Senate and 72-23 in the House. Continue reading.

A nationwide survey from the Trafalgar Group has revealed that an overwhelming majority of Americans say they are less likely to do business with Disney after learning that the company is "creating content to expose young children to sexual ideas." In the survey, which questioned more than 1,000 likely general election voters in early April, nearly 70% were "much less likely" or "less likely" to do business with Disney due to its embrace of LGBT activism. Just 6.1% said they were "much more likely" to do so. While 76% of Republicans reported they were "much less likely" to do business with the company, 34.2% of Democrats responded the same. Tinslee Lewis, the prematurely born infant at the center of a highly publicized lawsuit over whether a Texas medical center could end her life-sustaining care, has been released from the hospital. Tinslee, who was born prematurely in 2019 with a heart defect, was initially given a grim prognosis by Cook Children's Medical Center of Fort Worth officials who determined that continued treatment would be pointless. In response to Tinslee's release, Texas Right to Life announced, "Tinslee is alive, thriving, and growing. A happy and strong toddler, Tinslee’s health has so steadily improved that the hospital released her to go home." Continue reading.

April 14 is National Not Ashamed of Jesus Day, and to mark the occasion, Michael Brown is encouraging believers to proudly make a public statement of their faith in whatever way they can. "The fact is that we are not some tiny, hidden group forced to cower in the corner in fear for our lives. We are represented in every area of society, from the government to the courts and from the media to the schools ... The reality is that if God is for us, no one and nothing can be against us." "As the season of Passover approaches, a time similar to the very first Passover is taking place in Ukraine. Tens of thousands of Jews, including some Holocaust survivors, are fleeing oppression and praying for God’s miraculous deliverance," writes International Fellowship of Christians and Jews President and CEO Yael Eckstein. In this op-ed, Eckstein discusses Ukrainian Jews and the liberty they once enjoyed abruptly ending, explaining, "As Russian troops invade—supposedly to 'de-Nazify' Ukraine—Jews are once again on the run. Perhaps no other group in world history knows better about living constantly on the move than the Jewish people." Continue reading.

In this interview with The Christian Post, Crown Financial Ministries CEO Chuck Bentley discusses his role heading up the Christian non-profit, stewardship, and what the Bible says —and doesn't say—about money. While discussing how his life began to change when he learned to recognize that all of his finances belonged to God, Bentley recalls, "Faithfulness became my goal, not success ... Biblical stewardship is not ordering your finances in such a way that you can spend whatever you want. But, it’s ordering your finances in such a way that God can spin you however He wants. And that’s when you really got it. That’s when He has all of you." Continue reading.
