BOWEL CANCER AWARENESS MONTH: KNOW THE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
April is Bowel Cancer Awareness Month, so we wanted to highlight the key signs and symptoms of Bowel Cancer, or Colorectal Cancer, as it is sometimes called.
You'll find all the important information in the image below, or be clicking this video link. And remember, if symptoms persist for more than three weeks, book a check-up with your GP.
When it comes to Bowel Cancer, early diagnosis can mean more effective treatment, so if you're worried there may be a problem, don't delay - get examined as soon as possible.
With the2023 Ring of Kerry Charity Cyclejust around the corner, we are on a renewed mission toMake More Survivors. And as always, we need your truly valued input to help us reach our goal.
Breakthrough Cancer Research has once again been named as one of the main charities to partner with this year’s cycle, which takes place on Saturday 1st July. With our vision of100% Survival for 100% of Cancersforemost in mind, we are calling upon volunteers to join Team Breakthrough to help us raise much-needed funds for cancer research. If you would like to support Team Breakthrough but are unable to take part yourself, we would be extremely grateful if you could encourage other cyclists to sign up and join our fantastic crew! All money raised from this year’s cycle will go towards two new exciting research projects in the areas ofoesophagealandbreastcancer.
The cycle is undoubtedly a tough challenge, which is why we are eternally grateful to anyone who chooses to take on the 170km to help raise vital funds for cancer research. As we are entirely funded by the kindness and generosity of the general public, it is important to note that none of our all-important cancer research would be possible without amazing people like you.
Register hereto join Team Breakthrough today. Thank you for your continued support!
We were delighted to welcome some of our Patient & Public Involvement (PPI) panel members to a training event recently. Our PPI panel oversees all of our work, meaning that people directly affected by cancer participate in our research, providing valuable input.
People can get involved at any stage of the research process by helping to prioritise research ideas that are most relevant to the needs of people who have cancer, and their families. Their input improves the quality of our researchers’ work by providing a better understanding of the realities of cancer and offering new ideas, points of view and perspectives.
Working with our PPI panel gives our researchers invaluable insights that can help develop research ideas, accelerate progress and save lives. The people involved in our panel help to shape our work, ensuring that our communications are clear and accessible for other people affected by cancer, as well as the general public.
At our recent training event, we heard updates from four of our Musgrave PhD scholars – Fiona O'Connell and Fiona Crotty on their projects in oesophageal cancer, Patricia Flynn on her brain cancer (glioblastoma) research, and David Hackett on his work in pancreatic cancer.
It is because of the generosity of people like you that we are able to hold training days like this, so thank you as always for your continued support.
If you would like to get involved in our PPI panel, please contact Dr. Frances Drummond on 021-4226655 or email frances@breakcancer.ie. And keep in mind that you don’t need to have had cancer to get involved.
