Vintage London images to whisk you back in time Londoners might not have had cameras on their phones decades ago, but fortunately there were still plenty of keen photographers snapping away, and capturing images of a city that moves fast. Take yourself back in time by watching London's first Black police officer direct traffic. Picture having a pint of mild in a 1950s boozer, or being a patient during the early days of the NHS. Imagine the chaos of Wembley Stadium's first ever FA Cup Final, or strolling the streets of Hackney in the 1980s. You can travel back even further than the 20th century, too -- how about these astonishing photos of shoeblacks, ice cream sellers and harpists in Victorian London? We've also got some smashing vintage images of London's transport system. Check out pictures of the Jubilee line's early days (including one of our current King playing at tube drivers), photos of the pioneering woman of London transport (including someone we only know as 'Miss Armstrong'), and these images of Londoners sheltering in Underground stations while putting up Christmas trees, at the height of the second world war.
