When getting married, people have a choice to make regarding their last name: Keep their last name, take their partner’s last name, hyphenate the names … the list goes on. But when having kids, it’s most traditional in opposite-sex partnerships that the kids have the dad’s last name — even if the mom has kept her maiden name.
