Late last year I was talking to Chris from Broome, who told me about the nasty shock he received when he opened his home insurance bill. His annual premium had increased to $14,000. Once Chris had picked himself up off the floor, he shopped around and managed to get a better deal. I've spoken to so many people who are struggling to pay their insurance premiums. Insurers blame high inflation, as well as the increasing frequency of bushfires, cyclones, and floods for driving up premiums. There are concerns that we are now under-insuring homes or abandoning insurance altogether because it's become too expensive. Will there eventually be no-go zones, where development would be banned in disaster-prone areas? Join me at the next Mornings Spotlight Forum. My expert panel includes: - David Keys, an insurance broker based in Broome with 38 years' experience in the industry - Hasluck MP Tania Lawrence, a member of the inquiry into insurers' responses to the 2022 floods - Will Golsby, General Manager of External Relations at RAC WA You can join the discussion, and ask the panel a question, by being part of our live studio audience on Wednesday May 1 from 10 to 11am.
