Start Reading! The 2025 Festival Book Club

With less than five months to go until the Aspen Ideas Festival, it’s time to start doing some homework — and we promise it’s the fun kind! We’re counting down to June by reading thought-provoking books by some of the brilliant minds speaking at this year’s Festival. Each month, we’ll highlight a book by one of our speakers, giving attendees the opportunity to dive into transformative ideas before seeing the authors in person on our stages.

Our February pick is “The Anxious Generation” by social psychologist Jonathan Haidt. Riveting and extensively researched, this book explores the rise of the phone-based childhood and its alarming implications on the youth mental health crisis. Haidt suggests that adults are oversupervising kids in the real world and undersupervising them in the digital world. With cutting analysis and grounded advice, “The Anxious Generation” is a must-read for all of us navigating this technological age.

Want to hear from the authors in person? Secure your pass to the Aspen Ideas Festival with a $500 discount through the end of the month. Passes are selling out quickly, so register today!

Are We Alone Out There?

For many people, looking toward the stars comes with existential questions about our place in the universe and the meaning of life among the cosmos. It also begs the question: Are humans the only life form out there? And, if there are other intelligent life forms, how do we prove they exist? Journalist and historian Garrett Graff leads a conversation with former congressman and NASA administrator Bill Nelson, American Museum of Natural History senior research scientist Jackie Faherty, and astrophysicist and theoretical cosmology professor Paul Sutter. These multidisciplinary experts discuss the latest in the quest to find life beyond Earth.
