Are you thinking of trying a complementary approach to help you manage a health problem? Here are some points to consider: 

  • A substantial amount of research has been done on some complementary approaches. Others have been investigated much less or not at all. Take some time to find out what studies have been done on the approach you’re considering. Our guide to PubMed can help you search for scientific publications. 
  • If you’re considering a practice that involves visiting a practitioner—such as acupuncture or massage therapy—it’s important to select the practitioner carefully. This set of six tips can help.
