A new analysis by Pew Research Center found that the share of U.S. adults in the middle class has shrunk since 1971.

The amount it takes to be middle class depends on where your live and how big your household is. You can find out where your household falls with Pew's income calculator. 

Here are some of the other findings:

• The percentage of Americans in the middle-income tier fell from 61% to 50% from 1971 to 2021.
• The American middle class used to hold a majority of the aggregate income in the U.S., but as of 2020, the upper-income tier holds 50% of the aggregate household income.
• Americans in the upper-income tier have seen the biggest financial gains over the past 50 years.

As you may remember, Utah Gov. Spencer Cox has caught some negative attention recently after Fox News commentator Tucker Carlson went on a rant against Cox on his show.

When he was asked during his monthly PBS Utah news conference how he thinks the comments might affect him politically, Cox said, "Oh, you know, I don’t know, nor do I care to be perfectly honest."

"If you’re just governing to keep your poll numbers up, then you’re not leading," he said. "So we’re going to continue to govern and do the things that we feel are right and best for the state of Utah, and whatever happens in 2 1⁄2 years happens."
