Sinatra Why Pokeman ? May is a memorable month for me. . I thought I had seen it all when a PSA grade 9 Mickey Mantle rookie card sold in April 2020 for $3 million. . And being a vintage sports collector, I can get excited about that. BUT, Non-Sport cards like Pokémon for nearly $1Million a week ago? This is a card that just came out in 1999. And ready for this? Its been reported a Grade 10 of the above card sold in a private sale for $5.75 MILLION ! . Whether investors are moving their assets OUT of the unstable stock market and into the far more stable Art & Collectibles market is a most reasonable and rational explanation. However, I just can’t get excited about Pokémon. But obviously many collectors are! . And although we love and do offer highly desirable non-sport cards like 1950s/60/70s classic TV cards, we won’t be offering Pokémon, even if there is a crazed collector base out there. . I personally am more attracted to historical TRUE collectibles that have stood the test of time, and were Never “Manufactured” to be a collectible. When gum pack cards, vintage comics and movie posters were produced 50-90 years ago, no one collected them for investment. We collected our favorite baseball player, TV show, movie or super hero. They evolved as Valuable collectibles by their gravitational nature and immense attraction to nostalgic and discerning collector. . So although you won’t find Pokémon on Conway’s Vintage Treasures, you WILL find Rare Historical Treasures you won’t find anywhere else.
