Happy New Year!
The first week of the year has me on the road.Â
As you read this, I am spending the first week of the New Year in New York consulting for two days with a Real Estate law firm and in Boston attending a ProVisors Group meeting (in person).
I always combine a work trip with a business development opportunity. While in New York, I'll reach out to a handful of folks from either ProVisors or Vistage and see if they want to connect for a meal or coffee.
The trip to Boston is something altogether different. I'm going there to meet the members of one particular ProVisors networking group. I'm spending an extra night in a hotel, investing in an additional flight, and taking time out of my jam-packed schedule to meet 40 new people in person.Â
I'm doing this because one of the people in that room in Boston will someday refer me to a great client. I know this because I know the people in that room. I don't know them personally, but they are qualified to refer business to me. This means they:

One of the secrets to successful business development is ONLY meeting with people who are qualified to work with you or refer business to you. Meeting with anyone else is a waste of your time.
