With the upcoming proposed reform to the prospective payment system (PPS), aligning resident documentation across multiple disciplines will drive reimbursement more than ever. Promoting collaboration between your facility’s nursing and therapy departments is not enough; each facility must have specific policies, procedures, and effective communication strategies in place to avoid an audit and improve resident-centered care. This three-hour virtual workshop offers nurses and therapists an opportunity to learn together and participate in interactive exercises based on carefully chosen case studies that highlight common hurdles in achieving interdepartmental collaboration. These activities will be followed by guidance, expertise, and commentary from our industry experts — in real time. Speakers Liz Barlow, BSN, RN, CRRN, RAC-CT, DNS-CT, and Renee Kinder, MS, CCC-SLP, RAC-CT, will use their own experiences on the floor to help participants understand the everyday challenges of aligning resident documentation across disciplines to optimize reimbursement and provide resident-centered care. Listeners will also have an opportunity to submit questions throughout the program so Barlow and Kinder can provide on-the-spot education and feedback. At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to: - Apply communication strategies to achieve collaboration between therapy and nursing teams for resident-centered care
- Clarify methods for promoting consistent and quality documentation practices across the interdisciplinary team
- Explain why collaboration between therapy and nursing teams is imperative with the advent of multiple quality reporting measures (i.e., new QMs through the Five-Star Quality Rating System, the Quality Reporting Program, and the Value-Based Purchasing program) and why functional outcomes and measures are vital to the success of a facility
