Argument led to deadly shooting at Circle K

with Jennifer Wadsworth | Assistant metro editor

Thanks for stopping by today. Here's a look at our top headlines:

Circle K shooting

After 10 days of relative peace in Baton Rouge after a skyrocketing homicide rate in 2021, a man was shot to death Thursday inside the Circle K on South Sherwood Forest Boulevard — a brazen display of gun violence that police say stemmed from an argument. In this story, Lea Skene and Elyse Carmosino bring us the latest details in the shooting, which marked the second in a span of hours in a half-mile radius.

Ready for crawfish season?

Demand is as strong as ever and warmer-than-expected winter temps kept local crawfish active, feeding and growing, leading to heightened catches by the start of the New Year. And while the recent cold snap dented production, experts still expect a bountiful season, as Robert Stewart and Adam Daigle report.

Escapee smuggled a gun, too

A teen who escaped a juvenile detention facility also managed to smuggle a gun into his cell, according Louisiana State Police, which launched an investigation into how it happened. Elyse Carmosino has the story.

We hope you have a good weekend.
