I will have a solo exhibition in this large festival in Sydney and I'm excited to travel there in person. More than 100 Australian and International photographic artists will exhibit throughout the city in galleries and outdoor spaces.

In preparation for this event, I have been developing new ways to group these "6 Feet Apart" images and am excited to see this project evolve. I particularly enjoy designing an installation that is responsive to the unique spatial qualities of a gallery, forging conceptual connections that extend across walls and floors.

As part of the exhibition, I plan to display framed "artifacts" that I salvaged from my previous show, each bearing the weathered marks of life on the sidewalk—torn, faded, and distressed. I also have been exploring ways to incorporate other scientific methods of visually displaying quantitative information, including learning about the history of DNA sequencing.

About the gallery

Articulate project space is an artist-run initiative — in Australia they refer to it as A.R.I. ! — in the US we would call it a nonprofit art center.

It’s a building with lots of soul that houses studios and galleries. I can't wait to see it in person—I have been living in the space in my mind as I plan out every inch of the show. Articulate supports “process without a predetermined outcome and provides a unique forum that can open a way for you to extend your practice. This could include such things as creating directions for new work, new collaborations and other forms of inquiry relevant to your practice."

About the festival

Head On Photo Festival 2023 is a 22-day event across Sydney, Australia. Featuring over 110 exhibitions, 700 artists, and a variety of talks and events. Highlights include exhibition hubs at The Muse, TAFE NSW Ultimo and spectacular outdoor exhibitions at Bondi Beach and Paddington Reservoir Gardens.
