In a nationwide first, Arkansas, under the direction of Gov. Sarah Sanders Huckabee, will enforce foreign-ownership land restrictions. On Oct. 17, Huckabee ordered Northrup King Seed Co., a subsidiary of Syngenta owned by ChemChina, to divest of 160 acres of farmland within two years. Additionally, Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin levied a $280,000 fine against Syngenta for failure to disclose ownership.
“The public doesn’t realize what these animals are capable of,” says wildlife trapper James Dean. “Unfortunately, you’re going to see more and more reports of people getting hurt in wild pig encounters.”
In 2000, the highest auction price paid for any tillage tool that year was $28,500. Today, that number surpasses $140,000 and easily ranges from $80,000 to $120,000.
