Under air and ground cover from British and French forces, troops were slowly and methodically evacuated from the beach using every serviceable naval and civilian vessel that could be found. --- SPECIAL EVENTS ---

We are thrilled to bring Story District to the Drafthouse for the first time to debut the first Best of Real to Reel in which real stories told live on stage are made into reel stories on film in a one-week contest with their partners at DC Shorts.  The Best of R2R will take place on Wednesday, October 4, 2017 at the Arlington Cinema and Drafthouse. Three firsts! First time in Arlington, first time at the Drafthouse, and first time showcasing the best the stories and films -- together in one night -- from past contests.

Austin's most adventurous band, The Invincible Czars, bring their new tastefully modern score for the 1922 German silent film Nosferatu (1922 F.W. Murnau) to select cities in the South, Midwest and East Coast this fall.

Nosferatu is one of the most revered films in the history of cinema. It is most certainly as the most important horror film of the silent era and one of the first vampire movies - though it was almost completely lost when the estate of Bram Stoker sued the filmmakers for copyright infringement and most of the prints of the movie were destroyed.

A master of reinvention, Kilmer transforms himself into the "First American," Mark Twain, in a comedic and moving performance that is both contemporary and reflective. The piece is based on the life of the man, Samuel Clemens, and of course his writings as Mark Twain. From his thoughts on politics (including his famous disdain for the U.S. Congress), to his family and ultimately his faith and God, Twain spins a series of yarns with his timeless satire and incomparable wit. Mr. Kilmer will introduce the 90-minute film and conduct a question and answer period with the audience following the screening. VIP ticket holders will have an opportunity to meet Val, chat, and take photos after the Q&A.

Arlington, get ready! On Thursday, October 12th, TGR is returning to the Arlington Drafthouse for the winter kick-off party of the year. Join us for a one-night only premiere of their new feature length ski and snowboard film, Rogue Elements, presented by REI.

There will be a ton of prizes from REI, The North Face, Atomic, Volkl, CEP Compression and more.  And, everyone there will have a shot at winning the tour grand prizes - including a trip to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, a trip to Ski City (Salt Lake City) including a VIP visit to the High West Distillery, or a trip to Crested Butte, Colorado, all of which come with $500 REI gift cards so you can gear up beforehand.

(Rated PG)(1hr 46mins)
Respected medical lecturer Dr. Frederick Frankenstein (Gene Wilder) learns that he has inherited his infamous grandfather's estate in Transylvania. Arriving at the castle, Dr. Frankenstein soon begins to recreate his grandfather's experiments with the help of servants Igor (Marty Feldman), Inga (Teri Garr) and the fearsome Frau Blücher (Cloris Leachman). After he creates his own monster (Peter Boyle), new complications ensue with the arrival of the doctor's fiancée, Elizabeth (Madeline Kahn).

BETCHES is excited to bring back a special Halloween edition of the BETCHES OF COMEDY BRUNCH. The signature snarky and honest BETCHES humor you live for will be brought to 7 cities across America, with a side of mimosas and a sh*t ton of laughs. All brunches will take place Saturday October 28th and also, we expect to see you in your costumes (there will be prizes for the best, duh).

For a deliriously funny adult night out during the holidays, join the Drafthouse Comedy Theater for The Santaland Diaries. Cameron Folmar, as Crumpet the Elf, will entertain you with this "delightfully cynical" one man show. A hilarious one act play, the script celebrates the desperation of unemployment, the insanity of Christmas shopping, and the ineffable "cheer" of the holiday spirit. The Santaland Diaries is a sarcastic, deliciously cynical way for adults to celebrate the holidays.

--- Sketch & Improv Classes ---

Sketch Comedy has been the cornerstone for comedy creativity for many years, including Late Night talk shows, SNL, Monty Python, MadTV, and more. Join us for our Level 1 Sketch Writing course with veteran Stephen Hale. Students will get stage time to perform their material in front of a live audience at Drafthouse Comedy in DC and/or the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse. Additionally, willing students can form in house troops and perform along national headliners as they continue to develop their skills. Time to get your creative comic juices flowing.

This course in an introduction to sketch comedy, writing short comedic scenes, rehearsing and working towards building a show that the students will perform in.  Each week students will explore different sketch formats and be asked, each week, to bring in a new sketch based on a specific format.

The goal of Drafthouse Comedy Level 1 Sketch Writing is to push students to not be afraid to fail in their writing, make big choices and take risks. Finding your own voice through the guidance and support of your teacher is what we strive to have you achieve.

The course will run for 8 total weeks.  5 weeks of writing, discussing and collaborating on new material.  2  weeks of rehearsing and exploring chosen sketches for the show and the final show, which will be held on the last day (8th week) of class.

No prior sketch writing experience is necessary - the only requirement for this class is a desire to write, perform and learn.  Students should be prepared to work outside of class, writing new sketches, for the first 5 weeks of class.

Class Size: Max of 10 Students. Tuesday 7pm - 9:30pm October 24thNovember 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th, December 5th, 12th, 19th
