Their Finest (Art House) (Rated R)(1hrs 57mins) During the London Blitz of World War II, Catrin Cole is recruited by the British Ministry of Information to write scripts for propaganda films that the public will actually watch without scoffing. In the line of her new duties, Cole investigates the story of two young women who supposedly piloted a boat in the Dunkirk Evacuation. Although it proved a complete misapprehension, the story becomes the basis for a fictional film with some possible appeal. As Cole labors to write the script with her new colleagues such as Tom Buckley, veteran actor Ambrose Hilliard must accept that his days as a leading man are over as he joins the project. Together, this disparate trio must struggle against such complications such as sexism against Cole, jealous relatives, and political interference in their artistic decisions even as London endures the bombs of the enemy. In the face of those challenges, they share a hope to contribute something meaningful in this time of war and in their own lives. Thursday 6/8/2017 7:45 PM - $10 |

Keepin' It Weird Wednesdays presents The Holy Mountain at the Arlington Drafthouse - July 26th Director Alejandro Jodorowsky was received with great fanfare after none other than John Lennon and George Harrison lauded his 1970 film El Topo. Lennon was so impressed that he and Yoko put up the production money for Jodorowsky's next film, The Holy Mountain. The result, as you might have anticipated, is wildly surrealistic and follows the journey of a thief as he attempts to turn the excrement that is his life into gold.

The piece is based on the life of the man, Samuel Clemens, and of course his writings as Mark Twain. From his thoughts on politics (including his famous disdain for the U.S. Congress), to his family and ultimately his faith and God, Twain spins a series of yarns with his timeless satire and incomparable wit. Mr. Kilmer will introduce the 90-minute film and conduct a question and answer period with the audience following the screening. VIP ticket holders will have an opportunity to meet Val, chat, and take photos after the Q&A.
