Black Lives Matter - These last 2 weeks have been very painful. George Floyd's murder playing out for all to see was devastating both because of his loss of life, but also for the obvious hypocrisy that exists in our society that plays out so unfairly in our justice system. Floyd was yet another example of this obvious hypocrisy - yet still so many don't see it. We don't understand how so many are blind to the discriminatory mistreatment the Black community receives (as well as other minorities) from our cornerstone institutions.
As a theater and live comedy venue struggling to re-open in the face of COVID-19, our future is uncertain. We are looking at our re-opening as a "reset" - a chance for another start. Our hope is that society can use this moment to "reset" as well - and help change our systems at the core - particularly the justice system. Arrest, violence, and prison - can't be the default first reactions of the State - to members of humanity. We simply have to be better than this.
Our hope is that we can help drive to a common understanding...
