Inspiration comes in all forms: modernist and maximalist, interiors and exteriors, in person and virtually! Join Design NC and the Cameron Art Museum on April 29th and April 30th as we live stream presentations from influential and renowned interior designers Thom Filicia and Celerie Kemble along with modernist architect Robert Gurney and ornamental and architectural plaster craftsman Foster Reeve. This year’s conversations will be set in a virtual forum where participants will enjoy live discussions on these varying design aesthetics as we explore how they differ and how they might be the same. |

Exhibition Translating Tradition Opens April 29, 2021
For thousands of years, plaster has attracted artists through its remarkable versatility. Created from ground or powdered limestone mixed with water, plaster was used by the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans. Poured into molds, it can replicate three-dimensional objects. The versatility of the medium has attracted artists, architects, and designers for its ability to easily add to or take away. This exhibition features work from CAM’s permanent collection as well as the work of renowned master Foster Reeve. Translating Tradition features work on loan from the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art, Foster Reeve, Bellamy Mansion and from CAM’s permanent collection. |

In-Person Photography Workshop The Garden in Spring with Alan Cradick Saturday, May 1, 10 AM-12 PM & Sunday, May 2, 12-2 PM CAM Members: $48; Non-Members: $60
This photography workshop is geared to the beginner/intermediate photographer. The New Hanover County Arboretum is one of the best gardens in the Wilmington area, and it is open the public all year. Maintained by master gardeners, the Arboretum showcases the native plants of our region as well as many others. Each season has a unique look. You never tire of visiting and photographing the plants and flowers here. Any digital device may be used for this workshop, smart phones, tablets or DSLRs. If using a DSLR it is suggested that the participant bring an array of lenses, from wide to telephoto. A macro is always fun if you have one. |

Philip Gerard: Live in the Galleries Sunday, May 2, 2-4 PM Free with admission
Join writer and musician Philip Gerard as he plays live 6 and 12-string solo guitar in Elizabeth Bradford: A House of One Room. Gerard is the author of numerous books of fiction and nonfiction, including Cape Fear Rising, The Last Battleground: The Civil War Comes to North Carolina, and Down the Wild Cape Fear. An avid musician, Gerard teaches creative writing at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. |
