PUBLIC ART: The thousands of visitors who are expected this weekend in the French Quarter for Southern Decadence will find something new on Bourbon Street. Just in time for the LGBTQ-oriented festival’s 50th anniversary, a giant rainbow fleur-de-lis has been painted in the St. Ann Street intersection.
WOMEN’S PRISON: In the six years since Louisiana's only prison for women flooded, rendering it uninhabitable, female inmates have been scattered across various lockups that weren't built for them. Now, construction is underway to build a new $150 million prison, Louisiana’s first in more than three decades and one designed specifically to rehabilitate them.
