In an undated image provided by the Renville County Sheriff's Office, part of a skull, believed to be about 8,000 years old, found in the Minnesota River in September 2021. Renville County Sheriff's Office via The New York Times.
by Eduardo Medina
NEW YORK, NY.- Two kayakers were enjoying the last glimmers of summer on the Minnesota River last September when they spotted an odd brown chunk along the bank. They paddled toward it and looked closer. It appeared to be a bone, so they called the Renville County Sheriffs Office. When Sheriff Scott Hable was told of the kayakers discovery near the city of Sacred Heart, about 110 miles west of Minneapolis, his mind raced to the first possible explanation: Maybe it was the remains of a missing person from a nearby county? I dont think anybody was anticipating the news to come, Hable said. The sheriffs office sent the bone to a medical examiner and then to a forensic anthropologist with the FBI, who was not able ... The set of American Buffalo at Circle in the Square in Manhattan, May 4, 2022. Vincent Tullo/The New York Times.
by Laura Collins-Hughes
NEW YORK, NY.- It was opening night of Plaza Suite, and the sets bathroom door was meant to stay shut a stubborn comic obstacle to Matthew Broderick and Sarah Jessica Parker, playing parents of a bride who has locked herself inside on her wedding day. Reinforced within an inch of its life, the door had held all through previews. On that March evening, though, the frame around it gave way, derailing the plot and amusing the crowd. Opening night! the sets mortified designer, John Lee Beatty, said later. I wish the audience hadnt enjoyed it that much. Of course spectators would have. One of the principal pleasures of in-person theatergoing is the ever-present awareness that the performance might somehow go awry. And in the Broadway season that followed such a long, grim pandemic intermission, simply encountering a gorgeous set ... More

Conjuring the initial inspiration for the curatorial framework, artistic director Koyo Kouoh remarks, After more than a century of living with photography, we have learned to perceive the world photographically, with many of us seeing the world in image formats shaped by the media platforms that disseminate them. While images themselves are unstable forms, the mental repository we build through this prosthetic mode fundamentally shapes how we engage with the world around us. The present day is therefore ... ANTWERP.- Tim Van Laere Gallery presents Kati Heck's fifth solo exhibition: Legende (Legend). In this exhibition, Heck shows a series of new paintings, drawings and furniture sculptures. Heck is known for her lucid yet enigmatic paintings, in which realism is transformed from a representative category into a fluid process. The way Heck assembles her compositions remind us of the literary genre of the legend. Legends are stories that have been retold through generations, but can also be seen as deciphering tools or as something that can offer us a foothold. Every legend is based on a core of truth, but that truth has been distorted and exaggerated in a way that it has become difficult to confirm or deny the accuracy of the story. We also find a play on reality in the work of Kati Heck. Her compositions branch out into multiple genres - where literature, history, art history, science and her own lived experiences ... More
