EINDHOVEN.- Why do we know so little about what happened on the plantations in the former Dutch East Indies? The horrific history of contract labour in Deli in Sumatra, which forced people to work for western entrepreneurs, seems to have been covered up. Stories of resistance were often not written down but passed on orally instead. This deliberate oppression and denial of the plantation workers and their experiences is still palpable to this very day. In its multiÂyear Hidden Connections research project, the Van Abbemuseum discovers the role it played in the Netherlands colonial past. DUSSELDORF.- New perspectives on art history: Since the summer of 2024, K20, the state museum of North Rhine-Westphalia, has been showing its collection in a comprehensive new presentation. More than 180 masterpieces of early modernism and postwar art are on display. SARASOTA, FLA.- Romantic partners for more than 30 years, Larry Fink (1941-2023) and Martha Posner (b. 1956) often edited one anothers work in their studios. Radically different artists at first glance, Finks photographs and Posners multimedia works have always been exhibited separately. Sarasota Art Museum at Ringling College of Art and Design unites their artwork for the first time and highlights the power of creative partnership in Larry Fink / Martha Posner: Flesh and Bone, on view Nov. 17, 2024-April 13, 2025. DEN BOSCH.- Het Noordbrabants Museum in s-Hertogenbosch presents the first solo exhibition in the Netherlands by French artist Abdelkader Benchamma. His artistic evolution, influenced by studies at the Ãcole Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and Montpellier, features a dynamic interplay of natural forms within the monochrome power of black and white. Inspired by literature, art, anthropology and esotericism, Benchamma creates an in-situ visual landscape that bridges the material and intangible. In this exhibition, he connects his work with that of Dutch masters in the museums collection: Bruegel and (followers of) Jheronimus Bosch.
