FRANKFURT.- The Liebieghaus Skulpturensammlung is presenting a special exhibition revolving around a work of key significance to the history of European art: the so-called Crucified Thief by the Master of Flémalle, one of the most enigmatic figures of Early Netherlandish painting. Comprehensive examination and restoration of the fragment got underway at the Städel Museum in October 2014. Painted on both sides, it is the only surviving section of a large-scale triptych of the Deposition that was among the most prominent and influential works of Netherlandish painting at the beginning of the fifteenth century. Now that the conservation and restoration measures have reached completion, the precious work literally shines with new splendour. The Best Photos of the Day Harmon-Meek Galleries of Naples, Florida will host a major exhibition by internationally acclaimed still life artist Jenness Cortez whose paintings will honor a variety of Western masters. These will include Camille Pissarro, Jan Vermeer, Leonardo DaVinci, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jean-François Millet, Henri Matisse, JohnSinger Sargent, Frederic Remington, Andy Warhol and Norman Rockwell. PASADENA, CA.- The Norton Simon Museum presents an installation of Rembrandts striking Self-Portrait from 1640, on loan from The National Gallery, London this winter season. Titled Self Portrait at the Age of 34, the painting captures the image of the artist in his middle age: affluent, self-confident and wise. Its installation at the Norton Simon Museum marks the first time the painting has been on view in the U.S. and is part of a loan exchange program between the Norton Simon Museum and the National Gallery that began earlier this year, with the London installation of the Museums The Repentant Magdalene, after 1660, by Guido Cagnacci. For the exhibition at i8 Irwin has chosen several works that expand on his use of fluorescent light, a material that Irwin first started working with in the 1970s and returned to prominence in his overture of works in the past 10 years. The works have all been selected with the gallery in mind. The light fixtures, some bulbs turned on, others turned off, can be perceived as pure abstract sculptures, dependent on the viewers perception of light, shadow and reflection. MAINZ.- This exhibition by Daniel Buren (born 1938) and Bettina Pousttchi (born 1971) was initially inspired by the work Conversations in the studio 3. This saw Pousttchi recording her exchange with the French conceptual artist Burena conversation between artists from two entirely different generations about public art and its limits, but also about points of view and what the artists have in common. Renoir: Les Ãtudes opens on Dec. 26 and shows a lesser-known side of 19th-century French Impressionist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. ALEPPO.- It used to be one of the most vibrant marketplaces in the Syrian city of Aleppo, but today, the bombed-out streets of Khan al-Harir are home to a solitary shop selling tablecloths. Mohammad Shawash's partly restored storefront stands amid a sea of smashed concrete and debris-laden roads. The 62-year-old with a snow-white beard and glasses decided to return to the historic souk five months ago to reopen the shop he had managed for years. "I cried when I first came back. I found total destruction all around me. The stores were destroyed, the streets covered in rubble and rocks, and the buildings collapsed," he told AFP. LONDON.- Tate Modern unveiled 11 swings outside the gallerys Blavatnik building, as part of a large-scale interactive installation by Danish collective SUPERFLEX. One Two Three Swing! is the first Turbine Hall commission to extend beyond the gallery walls. An orange line connecting dozens of three-seated swings weaves through the Turbine Hall and has now emerged onto the landscape outside Tate Modern where it will activate the space and continue to extend over time.
