Fashion designer Virgil Abloh in Chicago, April 16, 2019. David Kasnic/The New York Times.
by Vanessa Friedman
NEW YORK, NY.- Virgil Abloh, the barrier-breaking Black designer whose ascent to the heights of the traditional luxury industry changed what was possible in fashion, died Sunday in Chicago after a two-year battle with cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare cancer. He was 41. His death was confirmed by his family. The artistic director of Louis Vuitton menswear as well as the founder of his own brand, Off-White, Abloh was a prolific collaborator with outside brands from Nike to Evian, and a popular fashion theorist whose expansive and occasionally controversial approach to design inspired comparisons with everyone from Andy Warhol to Jeff Koons. Abloh transformed not just what consumers wanted to wear, bridging hypebeast culture and the luxury world, but what brands wanted in a designer and the meaning of fashion itself. ... More

Andy Warhol: Revelation explores the artists lifelong relationship with his faith, which inspired images that appeared frequently and overtly as part of his artistic practice. Edward Lipski, Testament, 2020 - 2021. Magnetite composite cement, steel, 127 x 78 x 47 cm (sculpture), 82 x 64 x 64 cm (steel plinth).
ANTWERP.- Tim Van Laere Gallery opened Edward Lipski's fifth solo show at the gallery. In this exhibition Lipski shows a new body of works that encompass the same hybridity as the artists heritage, rooted in Paraguay and Ukraine. On the one hand these works reference thematics that are close to the animal kingdom, which we often find in tribal art, while on the other hand we recognize a stylistic reference towards the Modernistic language of Sovjet sculpture. Lipskis artistic practise is one filled with oppositions. The artist is interested in sculpture from all ages and cultures, and particularly in how images can evoke meanings, as well in the past, the present as the future. By researching the way visual concepts have altered throughout history, Lipski has fused different sculptural elements into a new visual language that crosses over the barriers of time ... More
