VERO BEACH, FLA.- The Vero Beach Museum of Art presents an exciting selection of approximately sixty works selected from over 500 objects of contemporary German art drawn from the deep holdings of the renowned Rubell Family Collection in Miami, Florida. Don and Mera Rubell have established one of the first major private museums of contemporary art that has become an international model. The exhibition chronicles this landmark period through cutting-edge painting, sculpture and photography from some of the most important practitioners of contemporary art. During the post-World War II era, Düsseldorf and Cologne became leading centers for contemporary art. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, both Berlin and Leipzig also emerged as important contemporary art centers. Few countries have had four major centers of contemporary art at one time. This exhibition features exceptional examples from these cities pioneering artists from the late-twentieth centurie ... More |

POTOMAC, MD (AFP).- It may be the greatest art collection you've never heard of -- until now. With a sprawling gallery space in a prosperous exurb of Washington, Glenstone has become one of the world's biggest private art museums. At a time when museums are courting Instagram-hungry crowds and visitors have to elbow each other to catch a glimpse, Glenstone has carefully choreographed a journey in the opposite direction as part of its $200 million expansion. Birdsong and crickets provide the soothing cadence to the 10-minute walk from the parking lot to the new building, along a gravel path carved into rolling hills dotted with wildflowers, sycamore and oak trees. LONDON.- This exhibition is the first ever devoted to the relationship between two of the greatest artists of the Italian Renaissance: Giovanni Bellini (active about 14591516) and Andrea Mantegna (1430/11506). Through exceptionally rare loans of paintings, drawings, and sculpture, travelling to London from across the world, 'Mantegna and Bellini' offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to compare the work of these two important artists who also happened to be brothers-in-law a family connection from which both drew strength and brilliance throughout their careers. Neithers career or artistic development would have existed without the other, and without these works imbued with their creativity and innovation, Renaissance art, by the likes of Titian, Correggio, and Veronese, would not exist as it does today. The son of a carpenter, Andrea Mantegna was a self-made man. In 1453 the prodigiously talented young painter from Padua, married into ... More |
