Exhibition focuses on the paintings of Dutch, German and Danish Impressionists

Wassily Kandinsky, Scheveningen–Strand, 1904. Museum Kunst der Westküste.

ALKERSUM / FÖHR.- Like a breath of fresh air – that is how artists experienced the new stylistic direction of Impressionism, which emerged from France in the 1860s. Fleeting atmospheres of light, new leisure activities or impressions from travels were captured with rapid brushstrokes painted directly on the canvas in radiant colours in the open air. These principles quickly spread and also led to a profound transformation of painting in northern Europe. This travelling exhibition particularly focuses on the paintings of Dutch, German and Danish Impressionists. In cooperation with the Museum Singer Laren and Lower Saxony’s Landesmuseum Hannover, more than 80 exquisite ... More

OSL Contemporary opens "Ahmed Umar: Glowing Phalanges"
OSLO.- Rooted in Umar’s experiences growing up in environments that were oppositional to each other—Sufism and Wahhabism—Glowing Phalanges is the synthesis of an artist’s life spent tending to all its spiritual possibilities. Umar, who grew up in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, shouldered two burdens in his early life: contending with his queerness by doing everything possible to grant himself a place in paradise, and protecting his Sufi family from the dangers and retributions of their spiritual practices—namely their use of rosaries of up to one thousand beads. According to Wahhabi doctrine, the use of prayer beads (sibha) is forbidden, seen as an appropriation from other religions. Instead, believers are instructed to count their prayers using their fingers on their right hand—14 phalanges, with the thumb’s two phalanges counted as 3 to make 15 counts ... More

LAUNCH Gallery opens the fifth solo exhibition by Los Angeles based artist Leigh Salgado
LOS ANGELES, CA.- LAUNCH Gallery is presenting the fifth solo exhibition by Los Angeles based artist Leigh Salgado. In her current series, Pissed ‘N Blissed, Leigh continues her intricate, meditative process of cutting, painting and collaging paper to create objects of depth and beauty. Salgado continues to investigate ideas of the feminine as an act of female empowerment and strength. Unfortunately, fundamental human rights of women so long ago fought for and won, are currently under siege. Through these creations, Leigh hopes to inspire her sisters and brothers in creativity and humanity to stand up to the dark oppressors and fight, in whatever way we can, to spread truth, light and dignity. Kunstmeile Krems opens an exhibition of works by the German artist duo Anna and Bernhard Blume
KREMS AN DER DONAU.- The German artist duo Anna and Bernhard Blume (1936–2020 and 1937–2011) are internationally renowned for their black and white photographs. The duo staged performative actions and captured them on camera. Most are bizarrely arranged domestic scenes. The two artists are the performers themselves, she with a perm, wig, and a neat dress, he in a small checked suit and hat. With irony and humor, the Blumes counteract gender patterns, roles, and clichés as well as bourgeois codes of behavior. Potatoes fly through the air, shards of broken plates are strewn over the kitchen floor, furniture constructions collapse, and people with distorted faces fiddle with all kinds of everyday objects. What the people in the pictures are doing is anything but conformist; it is crazy in the best sense of the word. Anna and Bernhard Blume were involved in ... More
