Broad Expansion Plaza.

LOS ANGELES, CA.- Joanne Heyler, Founding Director and President of The Broad, and philanthropist Edythe L. Broad, co-founder of The Broad, today welcomed civic, cultural, and business leaders to break ground on the museum’s major expansion, which will open in 2028. The project will significantly increase the number of works on view from the renowned Broad collection of contemporary art and add fresh facets to the visitor experience. Thoughtfully designed by the architects of the original building, Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R), this bold expansion opens a new perspective on the “veil and vault” concept DS+R introduced in 2015, with the building’s iconic white honeycomb “veil” enveloping the art storage “vault,” its sculptural grey core. The expansion symbolically pulls the vault out from the veil and opens it to the public, reinforcing The Broad’s mission and track record of reaching the widest possible audience. New outdoor courtyards will open to the sky ... More

The work sold for $690,000 — a triumph for the debut artwork of a character created initially to protect Marvel’s copyright, as Stan Lee feared DC might put its spin on one of his most famous characters. And with the sold-out $18,534,539 auction total, Heritage continues to carve out a dominant spot in early 2025 following that record-heavy January Comics event which brought $10.79 million. Air de Paris opens Even cowboys get the blues
PARIS.- After nearly thirty years in Sweden, last summer Martha Edelheit returned to Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue where she had begun her career in the early 1960s as a painter, and, more discreetly, as a filmmaker, by way of a few charming short films signed “Martie Marbles”. When I visited her last February, she was working on a large canvas: a nude portrait of a couple of friends languidly sprawling on a bed of spring flowers. Her assistant, a young painter with magnificent blonde curls, looked as though he had stepped straight out of the drawings she made in 1971 – works soaked in a raw, sunlit eroticism, that are exhibited here for the first time. Less than a decade separates these nostalgic apparitions (a portrait of Susan Sontag and other ghosts of early 1970s America) from the photographs that Bruce Pavlow took in San Francisco in 1978, most of which depict gay and trans ...
