This artwork is part of Abbey’s Texture Series, where she experimented with building up canvases using acrylic paint, sand, and sawdust combined with polymer gloss medium to achieve rich, earthy textures. Begun around 1989, this vast work consists of 42 quilts and 23 individual panels which represent 384 individuals affected by HIV and AIDS.
