Gerard & Kelly, E for Eileen, 2023. 4K video, color, sound; 22 min. Edition of 3 plus 1 artist's proof. PARIS.- Marian Goodman Gallery Paris is presenting the first major exhibition in Paris devoted to the work of Gerard & Kelly. Entitled Bardo, the exhibition features new sets of works by the duo that collectively illustrate the hybridity and multidisciplinarity of their practice, which is rooted in an ongoing investigation of history, architecture and sexuality. The exhibition is imagined as a time-based and multi-sensory experience, and the title, inspired by Tibetan Buddhism, refers to the transitional state between death and rebirth, during which consciousness undergoes profound changes. Through the evocation of three saintly historical figures, openly or symbolically queer, Gerard & Kelly create a space for reflection and resonance between past and present, shadow and light, the profane and the sacred. Eileen Gray (1878-1976), a Paris-based Irish architect and designer, was the author of a fundamental work of architectural modernism: villa E-1027, built in the bay of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin. ... Exhibition at Dorothee Nilsson Gallery explores nature in the age of over-consumption | | 'Journeys: Landscape as Self Expression' opens Jan. 21st at the Brunnier Art Museum | | Yasuhiro Ogawa captures the silence and beauty of Japan's landscapes in exhibition at Galerie 94 | Inka & Niclas, 4K Ultra HD IX, 2018. BERLIN.- The acclaimed artistic duo Inka and Niclas LindergÃ¥rd primarily create photography-based works. Their diverse practice draws inspiration from the aesthetics of popular culture, examining its influence on how we perceive nature. Perceptions presents a selection of their works, exhibited for the first time at Dorothée Nilsson Gallery. How does one summarise a practice spanning nearly two decades? The photographic medium possesses a violent power. Photography creates beauty, but it can also consume the nature it depicts like the generic image of a palm tree at sunset that has adorned printed calendars, beach towels, and posters since the 80s. Consumed by popular culture, the motif became so saturated that it still tends to touch on kitsch aesthetics. As a result, viewing an actual palm tree at sunset can seem trivial to someone who has seen too many reproduced depictions. In their lens-based practice, Inka and Niclas LindergÃ¥rd recurrently delve into the realm of the overly c ... More | | Joseph Stella (Italian-American, 1877-1946), Detail of Tree of My Life, 1919. AMES, IA.- It's a well-recognized art genre, and this spring landscapes will abound in the Brunnier Art Museum, University Museums, Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. Beginning on Tuesday, January 21, the Journeys: Landscape as Self Expression exhibition will open in the Brunnier Art Museum, 2nd floor of the Scheman Building. The exhibition will feature landscapes in a variety of media and time periods, including photography, art collage and painting. The exhibition challenges viewers to consider the humanity found in nature, and the genre as a tool for identity and self-expression rather than merely for beauty. Included are loaned works of art along with many examples from University Museums permanent collection and recent acquisitions, exhibited in a manner to impactfully represent the myriads of ways artists work with landscapes and identity. "Landscapes are an important genre of art and one that can often be relatable for a wide range of art museum visitors," said ... More | | 7:30PM, 2021 © Yasuhiro Ogawa. BADEN.- Yasuhiro Ogawa is recognised as one of the new strong voices in Japanese photography. Through his unique perspectives and emotional depth, Yasuhiro Ogawa captures the beauty and mystery of travelling, creating images that are both timeless and striking. His work reinterprets the classic motifs and contemplative attitude of Japanese landscape photography. Landscapes appear as if on a canvas, pierce the steamed-up windows of a train, darkness and light bordering on each other. Snow falls on soft, darkened colours. The places in Yasuhiro Ogawaâs pictures seem to be enchanted. For his current series «Into the Silence», Ogawa followed in the footsteps of the haiku poet Matsuo Bashō, who travelled through northern Japan in the 17th century. The collection of poems that emerged from this journey, now known as Oku no Hosomichi (The Narrow Path to the Deep North), combine the complex and multi-layered form of expression of haiku with descriptions of nature in a largely unknown territory (t ... Both events are free and open to the public. In Microcosm, Jenine Marsh constructs a precarious island where history, value, and utopian longing converge. The exhibition takes its title from an 1808 artists manual, Microcosm, which was designed for house-bound bourgeois women to help them imagine and depict the daily lives and labor of the working class. From the protective utopia of the country estate or city mansion, these hobby artists drew and painted images of another utopia: a quasi-real ... More Project Arts Centre presents its 2025 programme DUBLIN.- Project Arts Centre shared their 2025 Visual Arts exhibition programme. Eva Richardson McCreas film The Decameron / Na Deich Lá departs from Giovanni Boccaccios 14th century book of short stories wherein ten young people flee to a villa outside Florence in order to escape the Black Death pandemic. In this new work, ten protagonists and their frame story are relocated to a contemporary co-living development near Dublin where they live, work and play together. Aimed at a young, affluent and globally transient workforce, co-living developments function to normalise housing crises in an age of loneliness by redefining the concepts of home and living. Through focusing on experience and convenience over space and privacy, living becomes a service that is provided, and the notion of a stable home is replaced by home as a subscription. ... Labastie, a ceramic sculptor, and Delprat, a painter, have carte blanche to transform Keramis's white box space. More Hiba Kalache: Painting fables from the Kalīla wa-Dimna at Altman Siegel SAN FRANCISCO, CA.- Altman Siegel is presenting an exhibition of new paintings by Hiba Kalache. This suite of paintings finds its origins in the Kalīla wa-Dimna, a book of fables dating back to the 13th century. Though the text was first composed in Sanskrit, titled The Panchatantra, in the year 200 B.C., it has been translated numerous times throughout the millennia. From Sanskrit to Persian, from Persian to Arabic, and more. Here, Kalache has translated the ancient text and illustrations yet again, through the act of painting.
