José de Madrazo, Josefa Tudó with her sons Manuel and Luis Godoy, in a garden. Museo Nacional del Prado.
MADRID.- The Prado National Museum today opened "Change of Form: Myth and Metamorphosis in José de Madrazo's Roman Drawings," an exhibition showcasing the intriguing works of José de Madrazo y Agudo, the museum's first artistic director. The exhibition, running from March 10th to June 22nd in the Villanueva building, offers a unique glimpse into Madrazo's fascination with classical mythology and its reflection of a turbulent era. During a time when Europe was reshaped by Napoleon and Goya captured the horrors of war, Madrazo, then in exile in Rome, explored the transformative power of myth. The exhibition features a collection of drawings and portraits from the Daza-Madrazo collection, acquired by the Prado in 2006, highlighting Madrazo's ability to interpret ancient stories through a contemporary lens. The exhibition is structured around two distinct sets of works, prompting questions about their original purpose. One set appears to be preparatory sketches for engravings, while the other, semi ... Stefan Panhans / Andrea Winkler, Oh-oh-oh, Yeahh? installation view. Courtesy: The artists and Drawing Room, Hamburg.
HAMBURG.- Most artists endure a frugal life because they participate in something almost sacred: human creativity. So they accept an existence under pressure, full of missions and self-exploitation. The two films »OPEN CALL« and »Anima Overdrive« and the associated installation by the artist duo Stefan Panhans & Andrea Winkler, who live in Berlin and Hamburg, revolve around these themes. Stefan Panhans & Andrea Winkler work together on transdisciplinary, post-cinematic projects that include filmic elements and sculptural, site-specific installations. They examine the hypermedia character of our present, the (power) structures behind the processes of digitalization and their effects on our thinking and our bodies, as well as everyday racism and the increasing precarization of working conditions. José Yaque, 'Desembocadura del RÃo de Buenaventura' 2025, (detail).
HAVANA.- GALLERIA CONTINUA Havana is presenting Muro de sonido (Wall of Sound), a solo exhibition by Cuban artist José Yaque. This pictorial and spatial immersion engages in dialogue with energy, matter and the vibration of color. For several years, Yaque has developed a deep interest in the study of minerals and tectonic formations of the Earth, exploring the origin of color from mineral pigments. In his works, he has evoked the geological processes that shape the natural world and has captured the energy of nature from its entrails. This fascination with geology has translated into a methodology where paint flows freely, mixes and settles with autonomy, allowing chance and gravity to play a crucial role in the construction of the image. In this way, he obtains an organic relationship between the different acting elements, and the resulting painting becomes a reflection of the processes of nature. On this occasion, his lyrical abstraction ... More |

More Adams and Ollman presents 'Who's Afraid of Red, Yellow and Blue'PORTLAND, OR.- Color is a foundational concern in Katherine Bradford's (b. 1942, New York, NY; lives and works in Brooklyn, NY and Brunswick, ME) work. Her paintings begin with broad washes of reds, blues, greens, and purples across the canvas surface. From their beginnings as pure, unbridled, and luminous color, Bradford's paintingswhich distinctly occupy a space between figuration and abstractionslowly reveal mood, suggestion, or relationship. In "Six Fires," Bradford creates an otherworldly scene to consider the very essence of color itself: an evocative field of blue is simultaneously sea, sky, and space. Figures lit as if by moonlight ponder the primary colors that are not inherent properties, but rather perceptions of the fires that Bradford has painted for their warmth. More Michelle Uckotter's "Moviestar": A multi-platform exploration of violence, eroticism, and feminine identityLOS ANGELES, CA.- The whole of Michelle Uckotters (b. 1992) Moviestar unfolds in three interconnected parts: a solo exhibition at Matthew Brown, a parallel exhibition at Marc Selwyn Fine Art juxtaposed with an exhibition of works by Cameron (19221995), curated by Uckotter, and the debut of a short film by the same title directed and co-written by Uckotter and poet Riley Mac. The paintings in Moviestar, inspired by stills from the film, position the viewer as both witness and accomplice, immersed in Uckotters cinema of painting. These works, rendered in dusky jewel tones of oil pastel, show a sequence of eventsperhaps a night of partying gone very, very wrong, or a Manson-style cult ritualthat devolve into a fever dream of violence and eroticism.
