NEW YORK, NY.- Spanierman Modern announced the retrospective exhibition of Louise P. Sloane’s fifty-year (and counting!) career: Back to the Future: The Paintings of Louise P. Sloane Works from 1976-2022. The works in this exhibition, dating from 1976 to 2022, offer a holistic view of Sloane’s career and creative transitions. Evident throughout is a fixation on patterns, geometry, and language, with a keen interest in materials that had the ability to diffuse colors and produce a luminous surface texture. Early explorations (1975-1989) were ... More

Coveted card collections and Roberto Clemente game-worn jersey slide into Heritage's Fall Sports Catalog Auction
DALLAS, TX.- It has been only days since Heritage Sports called its shot with a record-shattering $62-million auction deemed (by an Australian newspaper, no less!) as “nothing less than historically extraordinary.” One might think that after hitting that shot heard ’round the world, this would be a moment to rest on laurels. Patti Scialfa, Bruce Springsteen's wife and bandmate, reveals cancer diagnosis
NEW YORK, NY.- Patti Scialfa, wife of rock star Bruce Springsteen and a longtime member of his E Street Band, revealed in a new documentary that she was diagnosed with a form of blood cancer in 2018, which has led to her curtailing her public appearances and band performances in the years since. Scialfa’s diagnosis of multiple myeloma was revealed in “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band,” a behind-the-scenes documentary about the New Jersey-born artist and the famed circle of musicians around him. The film premiered over the weekend at the Toronto Film Festival. “This affects my immune system, so I have to be careful what I choose to do and where I choose to go,” Scialfa said of her diagnosis in the film, according to Variety. Scialfa, 71, has been an E Street Band institution since the 1980s, ... More

Isaiah Collier funnels a 'very radical time' into a vivid new album
NEW YORK, NY.- Before Isaiah Collier went into the studio to record his new album, the saxophonist and composer sent his fellow musicians a playlist of sorts. Instead of songs, it contained news clips chronicling racially motivated violence targeting Black men and women — including the 2020 murder of Ahmaud Arbery and the 2023 shooting of the Kansas City, Missouri, teenager Ralph Yarl — as well as the protests that followed. Collier wanted the LP to be an “observation log” of the past four years, and he was reminding the members of his band, the Chosen Few, exactly where the music had sprung from. “It’s one thing to hear people who write their inspirations,” Collier, 26, explained on a recent video call from his hometown, Chicago. “It’s another thing for you to be in real time, and knowing that this is really coming from an actual ... Working on a Sri Lankan-Australian epic, he learned his family's past
NEW YORK, NY.- Playwright S. Shakthidharan has lived in Australia since he was a toddler, but when he speaks of his homeland, he means Sri Lanka. That’s where he was born, where he spent his first birthday, where his ancestors were rooted. Then in 1983, the South Asian nation descended into what would become a 26-year civil war. His family, part of the country’s Tamil minority, had the means to flee to safety. So they did, going to India, Singapore and finally Australia, in 1984. “I do think of Sri Lanka as my homeland, but I think of Australia as my home,” he said the other day, his accent redolent of Sydney, where he grew up. “I think I carry the two simultaneously. Sri Lanka lives somewhere in my chest. Always. Wherever I am.” He was saying this in New York, after a rehearsal of his epic play, “Counting and Cracking,” in which the ... More

Gagosian to exhibit new paintings by Anna Weyant in artist's London debut
LONDON.- Gagosian announced Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolves?, Anna Weyant’s first exhibition in London, opening at the gallery at Davies Street on October 8, 2024. In her new paintings, Weyant infuses elements of autobiography with the symbolic wit, portentous mood, and refined technique that distinguished Baby, It Ain’t Over Till It’s Over, her 2022 Gagosian debut in New York, and The Guitar Man, her 2023 debut in Paris. Weyant’s precisely rendered figure paintings and portraits undercut their subjects’ attempts at composure with gestures of tragicomic awkwardness, while her crystalline still-life compositions lend everyday objects a similarly unsettling and oneiric tinge, their muted palette contributing a reflective ambience. The six new paintings that comprise Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolves? retain this mood in atmospheric scenarios ... More

We extend our deepest gratitude to The Samawi Collection and the Barjeel Foundation for their generous support in loaning their impactful pieces. Reverence for female physicality alongside admiration of qualities traditionally associated with women—courage, victory, and grace—profoundly broadened and challenged prevailing narratives and norms. ... Patricia Fleming Gallery announce Blanco; a solo exhibition by Jo McGonigal
GLASGOW.- Manchester-based artist Jo McGonigal presents Blanco, a solo exhibition of new work developed during a summer residency in the gallery. Taking its title from white marble dust used in the traditional making of gesso (the foundation or ‘ground’ for painting), McGonigal brings painting into dialogue with landscape through her attention to deep material histories. Here, gesso is painted directly onto the walls of the gallery before introducing hand-drawn lines in coloured chalk, geometric structures, soft ground pigment, textile and found elements into formal abstract compositions. Materials and processes – human, mineral, animal are drawn together forming intimate connections between divergent materials on the verge of collapsing, crumbling, or breaking apart, their fragility undermined by the materials used. Here, landscape is experienced as a physical and spatial interaction that activates the body as much as the eye, whilst drawing on historical landscape ... More

BLUM will open Aaron Garber-Maikovska's third solo exhibition with the gallery
LOS ANGELES, CA.- BLUM will present Los Angeles-based artist Aaron Garber-Maikovska’s third solo exhibition with the gallery. Taking the grids and unlikely landmarks of the late capitalist suburban landscape as his sources of inspiration, Garber-Maikovska paints abstract marks of oil on fluted polypropylene or canvas that recall the artist’s ongoing performance practice. These motion-based works that Garber-Maikovska stages and subsequently draws upon for his paintings behave as if the semiotics of an avant-garde visual language met the controlled aleatory inherent to the compositions of John Cage. Garber-Maikovska enacts somatically channeled movements within, and attuned to, spaces of hyper-consumption such as the parking lot of a Target. Similarly, the uniquely manufactured plastic apparatuses by which Garber-Maikovska ... More
