Marian Bogusz, Radość nowych konstrukcji (The joy of new constructions), 1948 © National Art Gallery Zacheta, Warsaw.

DRESDEN.- Art is always a mirror of the times; a reflection of the present; a response to social questions. That is illustrated by “The Change to Come”, an exhibition to be held at the Lipsiusbau from 7 November 2024 to 16 March 2025. Presenting artists who live and work in Poland, its topic is their need for social, political and artistic change. The phenomenon of “commitment” has had a formative impact on Polish art over recent decades. Considering the dynamic upheavals affecting the entire globe, however, the exhibition is not restricted to Poland. Instead, it poses central questions about the relationship between art and society, highlighting the artist’s role as an eyewitness to contemporary challenges and as an active agent of change. One good example is Marek Sobczyk’s “Simple Rainbow”, which was created in 1991 for the Zachęta National Gallery of Art in Warsaw and displayed there for three years. The work of art returned to its pl ... More

Exhibition at Villa Medici offers visitors a journey around the theme of water
ROME.- Following the exhibition Stories of Stones (2023), Villa Medici continues its exploration of the elements with a journey around the theme of water, featuring works by around 30 internationally renowned contemporary artists. Ten of these creations have been specifically designed for the occasion. On the ground and in the atmosphere, as both an element and a resource, water constitutes us and overflows the world. Protean in form – rain, seas, droplets, dew, streams, clouds, fog, and tears – it is the essential source of all life. Diverted, extracted, and polluted, water has now become a vital issue in the ongoing ecological crisis. But although it has been conquered, the abyssal depths remain today more mysterious than the Moon, land of dreams, inhabited by fantastic monsters. This exhibition follows the cycle of water, from sunken civilizations ... More

Exhibition at Palais de Tokyo presents Myriam Mihindou's work made over the last twenty years
PARIS.- “Praesentia” (a polysemous title evoking presence, power, and protection) offers a generous unfolding of Myriam Mihindou’s work over the last twenty years, including new productions. The exhibition is particularly interested in the way in which the artist assumes the spiritual and therapeutic, as well as the social and political functions of art, through gestures, forms, and materials. Some dominant narratives are thus re-read by their margins, making visible bodies, voices, practices, and imaginaries that have long been neglected or minoritised. This exhibition is co conceived and co-produced with the CRAC Occitanie in Sète, to ensure that the works are visible over a longer period of time, and that they are accessible to a wide range of audiences. This exhibition has been jointly curated and produced with the Crac Occitanie (Sète) ... More
