"Water Drops on Burning Rocks" Exhibition Unites Ukrainian and Spanish Artists in NYC

Nina Murashkina

NEW YORK, NY.- The much-anticipated art exhibition Water Drops on Burning Rocks has successfully concluded its run at Mriya Gallery. Presented by Rukh Art Hub, the exhibition featured the compelling works of Ukrainian artist Nina Murashkina and Spanish sculptor Xavier Escala. The show explored powerful themes of duality, contrast, and the delicate interplay between masculine and feminine energies. The exhibition's title, Water Drops on Burning Rocks, was inspired by the philosophical question of dualities—whether a water drop falling onto a scorching stone would instantly evaporate or slowly leave a lasting mark. These inquiries into the fragility of time, transformation, and the potential for change were at the core of the artists' work. Visitors were drawn into a thought-provoking and sensual environment, where Murashkina's vivid visual language and Escala's tactile sculptures came together in a harmonious exploration of opposites. ... ifa Gallery Stuttgart opens '(Re)Born from Volcanos'
STUTTGART.- Volcanos are powerful natural forces that play a significant role in the geological and climatic formation of our planet. For these reasons, in many cultures they have strong symbolic meanings. The exhibition (Re)Born from Volcanos, at ifa Gallery Stuttgart from 15 November 2024 to 23 February 2025, is devoted to the transformative power of volcanos and the cultural, political, and spiritual dimensions that are linked with volcanic cycles. Galerie Valerie Traan presents an exhibition of sculptural works by Julia Cottin
ANTWERP.- Developed around simple gestures in the tradition of the artistic genre (carving, cutting, assembling, stacking, etc.), using wood as her preferred material, Julia Cottin’s sculptural work finds its references in architecture, using its symbols (the column) and its archetypes. For the Galerie Valerie Traan, the artist has designed new works, reactivating the installation of columns that invert construction standards and extend her reflections on natural and constructed space. The title she has chosen for the exhibition, The Word for World is Forest, is a reference to a short science fiction novel published by Ursula K. Le Guin in 1972, which explores our relationship with the environment and offers anti-colonialist viewpoint. It is also a journey into the civilization of the Athseans, part of whose existence is spent in the dream ... More

Lorna Simpson debuts a new body of work at Hauser & Wirth
NEW YORK, NY.- With ‘Earth & Sky,’ Lorna Simpson debuts a new body of work exploring our relationships––physical and metaphysical––to unseen forces that work upon us individually and generationally, alternately challenging and empowering our sense of our own humanity. The exhibition encompasses a series of massive paintings inspired by a 1929 textbook ‘Minerals from Earth and Sky,’ along with a pair of monumental paintings depicting the impact of fired bullets. Presented in a temple-like atmosphere in which both human scale and geological time are upended, Simpson’s works are accompanied by a new text-based wall sculpture referencing a story recounted in the same textbook, describing the astonishment of an unnamed Black sharecropper when a meteorite falls from the sky and lands at his feet, still warm ... Galleria Continua opens an exhibition of works by Antony Gormley
BEIJING.- Galleria Continua presents ‘Body Buildings’, Antony Gormley’s third solo exhibition at the 798 Art District in Beijing following ‘Another Singularity’ (2009) and ‘Host’ (2016). ‘Body Buildings’ interrogates our species’ relationship to the built environment, an increasingly high-rise world we rarely escape. In a significant group of recent sculptures and drawings, Gormley uses clay and iron, two ubiquitous materials of the built world, ‘to think and feel the body in this condition’. The central work in the exhibition, Resting Place II, conjures a dense labyrinthine terrain that viewers are invited to enter and navigate. This field of 132 life-size bodies, each built from fired clay bricks stacked atop one another, investigates the body at rest as our primary dwelling place. For the artist, the brick is a ‘physical pixel’ that plays an important role in Chinese ... More

Exhibition at Michael Werner Gallery pairs paintings by Markus Lüpertz and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes
LONDON.- Michael Werner Gallery, London is presenting Markus Lüpertz - Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. This groundbreaking exhibition pairs paintings of Markus Lüpertz (b. 1941 in Liberec, Bohemia), one of the most important German painters of the post-war period, with paintings and drawings of 19th-century French master Pierre Puvis de Chavannes (b. 1824 in Lyon, d. 1898 in Paris). Over the course of a nearly seven-decade career, Lüpertz has created an expansive body of work, which art historian Aimée Brown Price describes as “replete with staunch emotional, historical, and personal content.” Lüpertz mulls over, repeats, and recontextualizes imagery with deep cultural and personal resonance, often culling from the work of past artists, such as Poussin, Rembrandt, Goya, and Courbet. On a day like today, French painter Camille Pissarro died
November 13, 1903. Camille Pissarro (10 July 1830 - 13 November 1903) was a French Impressionist and Neo-Impressionist painter born on the island of St Thomas (now in the US Virgin Islands, but then in the Danish West Indies). His importance resides in his contributions to both Impressionism and Post-Impressionism. Pissarro studied from great forerunners, including Gustave Courbet and Jean-Baptiste-Camille Corot. He later studied and worked alongside Georges Seurat and Paul Signac when he took on the Neo-Impressionist style at the age of 54. In this image: An unidentified visitor looks at the Impressionist painting by Camille Pissarro called the "Rue Saint-Honore apre-midi. Effet de Pluie (Rue Saint-Honore Afternoon, Rain Effect)," in the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum in Madrid, Thursday May 12, 2005.
