LEICESTER.- The Science Museum Group announced the Sokol space suit worn by ESA astronaut Tim Peake during his Principia mission to the International Space Station (ISS) will go on long-term display at The National Space Centre, Leicester. The Sokol KV-2 emergency suit, which was acquired on behalf of the nation by the Science Museum Group with support from the UK Space Agency, will go on display in Leicester next summer following its appearance on the hugely successful UK tour of Peakes spacecraft Soyuz TMA-19M, presented in partnership with global technology innovators Samsung. ARLES.- Jean-Luc Mylayne has spent his life going out into the world to photograph birds in rural settings, where he invests weeks and indeed months in order to obtain the composition he seeks. The Fondation Vincent van Gogh Arles presents an ensemble of 39 works created between 1979 and 2008, organised into nine sections according to their relationship with the light and the locality, and playing from the start on a progressive invasion of the azure blue of the sky. Printed as a single original, each photograph is silent about the place it was taken, but gives its date, underlining the length of time needed to gain access to the other that is the bird. Extensive private collection of Cuban prints shown at Springfield Art Museum
SPRINGFIELD, MO.- El Grabado: Contemporary Cuban Printmaking, an exhibition of over 70 prints by 33 Cuban artists pulled entirely from the private collection of Doctors Antonio and Luz Racela, opened Friday, December 7 and will run through March 17, 2019. The 33 featured artists have all worked, at one time or another, at the Taller Experimental de GrÃ¡fica de Habana the oldest, continuously running print workshop in Cuba. The Taller was established in 1962 by muralist Orlando Suarez with the help of Che Guevara, who was then Cubas Minister of Industry. EINDHOVEN.- THE TICK by Josefin Arnell is on show in the Van Abbemuseum's The Eye (Het Oog). Last June, Arnell won the Theodora Niemeijer prize 2018, a prize especially for female visual artists in the Netherlands. The jury was inspired by the world Arnell tries to create, the tension between the playful and youthfulness on the one hand and the darker side which draws into human fear on the other side. Arnell received a check for 10,000 euros for her work. In addition, Van Abbemuseum offers a platform for her project until 28 April.
