Mobility grants for arts professionals – Connections Through Culture

The second round of the British Council’s Connections Through Culture quarterly mobility grants to promote arts and cultural exchange between the UK and Southeast Asia is open from 4 October to 4 November 2019. The first round of applications finished in September 2019. This arts mobility grant is a first-of-its kind project to spark innovative ways for participants from six Southeast Asian countries and the UK to collaborate through the arts. A bilateral grants programme, it is designed to seed exciting cultural exchanges between artists, arts professionals and members of arts organisations and collectives, and nurture cooperation and long-lasting relationships.

See the successful grantees of the first round here. The announcement of grantees of the second round will be on 9 December 2019 for April-June 2020 mobilities. A third round will open at the end of the year.

Call for Application: Art of Peace Fellowship

Fellowship for local artists and art groups in the Philippines
Deadline 6 November

The British Council in the Philippines is now accepting applications for the Art of Peace Fellowship. The fellowship aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of local arts groups and artists in harnessing art, creativity and leadership for community engagement and peacebuilding in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM). It is open to all local individual artists, arts and cultural organisations based in the Philippines .

In partnership with Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan, the Coventry University (UK), and The Change Collective, the Art of Peace Fellowship will select 30 applicants to undergo a five-day immersive workshop from 18 to 22 November 2019.

We had surprise visitors in Cebu – guess who?

Our Creative Innovators Programme (CIP) Fellows from Cebu, Naga and Davao were invited by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts’ (NCCA) as presenters at the International Conference on Cultural Statistics and Creative Economy last 14 to 15 October in Cebu City.

To make the most of having the CIP fellows together in one city, the British Council organised a Facebook Live panel at ASPACE Cebu where they could answer some of the questions raised during our networking and skills-building platform Creative Communities Unite: An Intercity Gathering held last August.

How do you listen to the WILD?

Participants were given a set of headphones and a Slung Low receiver that allowed attendees to switch between any of the speakers at any point. This was just one among the many creative innovations during the Wild Conference in Leeds, UK.

Four Filipino creatives joined the British Council delegation from around the globe to attend the conference. Organised by Slung Low, the Wild conference focused on shared cultural future through a series of simultaneous talks, presentations and activities. It was held in a little tented village built around a campfire designed for a participating live audience of 450.

Filmmaker Kyle Nieva of the Film Producers Society was able to use his time at Wild to build new relationships and explore new collaborations. Regil Cadavos of ASPACE Cebu stayed on after Wild for a week-long cultural residency with the conference organiser, Slung Low.
