China’s 2021 Negative Lists Widen Market Access for Foreign Investment
Two China negative lists of fields restricted to foreign investment have been further shortened in a new update. The 2021 versions reduce the number of sectors in which foreign investors are restricted or prohibited from participation, further opening access to key areas of the economy.
 
India’s New Digital Payments Compliance and Opportunity for Fintech with Tokenization
In 2022, digital payments compliance in India will require mandatory deletion of card-on-file details, thereby opening space for fintech disruptors. From January 1, 2022, merchants, payment aggregators, and streaming platforms cannot store individual card-on-file data (pertaining to debit and credit cards), as per directions issued by the Reserve Bank of India. The move is intended to make online transactions more secure, but industry stakeholders are worried they will make online transactions inconvenient and tiresome for consumers in India. In response, tokenization has been offered as a solution by the RBI.
