Why This Matters: Company CEO Randall Stephenson added that digital content rights, specifically stacking rights, were the major holdout. The CEO said a beta version of the service is functional and undergoing testing. AT&T announced plans for DirecTV Now in March.

| | #2 | | Redbox Testing New Streaming Service | | | | Redbox confirmed that it has started to test a new transactional video-on-demand service, called Redbox Digital, with a small group of customers. It is initially being offered as an iPad app, although Variety reported that Redbox is also eyeing an app for the Roku platform.
Why This Matters: The move comes two years after pulling the plug on its SVOD partnership with Verizon. Redbox Digital will offer digital video rentals and sales to complement its existing retail kiosk business.

| | #3 | | BitTorrent Live Comes to the Mac | | | | BitTorrent today released a beta version of its BitTorrent Live app for Mac users. The move comes just a week after launching BitTorrent Now on iOS and Apple TV. Unlike BitTorrent Now, BitTorrent Live relies on peer-to-peer technology to turn every viewer into a broadcaster.
Why This Matters: The company said that it released the beta version for Mac today so that users could catch the tail end of the Republican National Convention, as well as the Democratic National Convention next week, on its recently launched BitTorrent News channel.
