Audit finds flaws with how Louisiana decides when to release people from prison

Release dates: For years in Louisiana, a flawed state system has caused some inmates to stay behind bars beyond their release dates, a problem that has sparked lawsuits and even a federal investigation.

Now, a report from the Louisiana Legislative Auditor has found that the Department of Public Safety & Corrections does not have an adequate review process to ensure changes to release dates are accurately calculated. Read the full story.

School shooting: Four people were killed and at least nine were injured Wednesday in a shooting at a high school outside of Atlanta where students ran to seek safety in the football stadium, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Shots were fired Wednesday morning, and officers swarmed the campus of Apalachee High School as parents raced to find out if their children were safe at the school in Winder, Georgia. Read more.
