Behind the scenes at the Harvard Art Museums, conservators work with great precision and skill in bringing you the story of art. A few weeks back, conservator and printmaker Christina Taylor demonstrated the relief aquatint technique that artist Dan Flavin used to create three incredible prints. This week, we spotlight paper conservator Anne Driesse's treatment of a drawing by Degas.

ART TALK

Planting Edo

We’re thrilled to be partnering with Harvard’s Arnold Arboretum on a series of talks connecting the trees and flowers of the arboretum with the plant life depicted in works from our Painting Edo exhibition. Check out this recent recording of an Art Talk about the Magnolia sieboldii.

U.S.A. Idioms

In the summer of 2017, Kara Walker produced works in response to the deadly white nationalist rally and counterprotests in Charlottesville, Virginia. Read about her powerful drawing U.S.A. Idioms and other works by Walker included in a 2019 installation at the museums.
