There are many amazing individuals and groups of people that make our vital work possible, and our wonderful researchers form an integral part of this team. To showcase just how important their work is, we are sharing a day-in-the-life glimpse of one of our researchers, Maitiú Ó Murchú.
Maitiú’s research focuses on finding a new treatment for oesophageal cancer, which is a form of cancer found in the food pipe. With approximately 500 people in Ireland experiencing a new diagnosis of oesophageal cancer each year, new treatment options are urgently needed. The work of researchers like Maitiú is only possible because of supporters like you, so thank you for all your help in our mission to Make More Survivors.

BREAKTHROUGH CANCER RESEARCH ARE PROUD RECIPIENTS OF THE TRIPLE LOCK AWARD FOR 2023
We are extremely proud to have been awarded ‘Triple Lock’ status by the Charities Institute Ireland.
This accolade is awarded to charities that uphold the highest standards in fundraising, transparent financial reporting and strong governance structures, and we are delighted to have secured this honour once again for 2023.
Despite the fact that there are more than 11,500 charities registered with the Charities Regulator in Ireland, only 120 have been awarded the Triple Lock status. This has led to the award becoming known as the gold standard for charities in Ireland, and affirms our continued commitment to transparency, integrity and openness.
TUESDAY 1ST AUGUST 2023 - WORLD LUNG CANCER DAY
In Ireland, lung cancer is currently the leading cause of cancer deaths among men and women. August 1st marked World Lung Cancer Day – a day to create awareness and remind ourselves of the signs and symptoms (see below).
We know research is the most effective way of preventing future deaths from cancer, which is why we fund only research projects that have clear end benefits for better diagnostics, treatments and prevention.

WE TAKE YOU BEHIND-THE-SCENES AT THE PUBLIC CANCER RESEARCH SHOWCASE
It was great to see so many people coming along to take part in the recent Cancer Research Showcase tour of the laboratories at the Trinity College Translational Medicine Institute, based on the grounds of St. James’s Hospital, Dublin. People who attended the event enjoyed a number of talks during the tour, while getting an opportunity to chat to all the research teams and gain insights into both the cancer research process and the future of cancer research.
We’d like to thank the researchers who generously gave up their time to be a part of the event, as well as to everyone who came to see their work in action. A huge thank you also to Prof. Jacintha O’Sullivan and Dr. Melissa Conroy for all their work in helping us to pull back the curtain on the excellent patient-focused science being carried out, which would not be possible without your kind and generous support.

We are excited to announce that our annual National Street Collection will be taking place this September.
As you know, we are 100% funded by the generosity of the public, so to be able to take to the streets of Ireland for our national fundraising drive is really special. It’s a fantastic opportunity to meet and chat to members of the public who our research is helping and importantly, to raise the vital funds we need to continue our research finding new, better, kinder and smarter treatments for people with cancer.
However we can't do it alone, we need your help! Would you, your company or anyone you know be interested in helping us raise funds for vital cancer research? We are looking for volunteers on Thursday 21st and Friday 22nd of September at locations across the country. If you think you could spare a few hours, we would be so grateful.
