What programs do you volunteer for? "Currently Money Minders, in the past drove people to their appointments."
How long have you been volunteering with Eastern Area Agency on Aging (EAAA)? "Since 2014."
What brought you to EAAA? Why did you choose to volunteer with EAAA? "After retiring from teaching, I was looking for volunteer opportunities and I saw requests from EAAA. You had opportunities I was interested in."
What do you enjoy the most about volunteering? "Helping people. Filling a need individuals have."
What has surprised you the most about volunteering with EAAA? "I get as much out of it as I give to others. It fills a need I have to give back and help others."
What is your most memorable experience of volunteering? "Listening to the people I work with, sharing their lives with me, telling me how important it is to them to have someone helping them."
What do you wish other people knew about volunteering for EAAA or just about EAAA in general? "There are so many different opportunities for volunteering that it is easy to find something of interest to you. When you do, you help so many people but you also get so much pleasure and satisfaction yourself."
What hobbies are you interested in outside of volunteering for EAAA?"Making crafts especially Christmas ornaments, visiting my grandaughter and doing crafts with her. She calls me the "Slime Queen". I also love to bake. I also drive cancer patients to their appointments. I am the coordinator for Road to Recovery in Penobscot County as well as a driver. Before the pandemic, I drove about 6,000 miles a hear for Road to Recovery."
Something you may not know about me is... "I taught Family and Consumer Science (Home Ec) for 30 years. I am a Literacy volunteer."
