News of the first medical clinic in Canberra to provide abortions for women was making headlines on this day in 1977. The Canberra Times reported the clinic was due to open in Phillip and would offer services relating to contraception, menstrual regulation and minor gynecological disorders as well as abortions within 14 weeks of pregnancy. The clinic would provide counselling before and after the procedure and patients would be able to claim a medicare rebate.
