Australia's forgotten terror attacks |
|
Perth, 1988. As the rest of Australia celebrates the nation's bicentenary, a campaign of terror is underway in Western Australia. Chinese restaurants are being firebombed in the dead of night, and signs reading "ASIANS OUT" are appearing around the city. The police arson squad is racing against the clock to stop the next attack, but the Chinese community is terrified. Thirty-five years on, Crispian Chan — whose family restaurant was targeted in the terror attacks — is on a mission to find out more about this dark chapter of Australia's history. In a new series of the ABC's celebrated true crime podcast, Unravel, join Crispian and reporter Alex Mann as they delve into the story. You can also read our immersive online article, designed by the ABC's Digital Story Innovations team. Then, explore our range of content for National Science Week on the theme of sound and noise. Join Dr Norman Swan on Health Report to learn about the transformative technology of cochlear implants, hear from All In The Mind's Sana Qadar on why we sing to babies, and tune in to Ann Jones' Nature Track, which has returned for a special Science Week episode. Finally, we're thrilled to welcome some brilliant humanities minds for the ABC's Top 5 media residency program, which kicked off this week. Keep an eye out for content across the ABC from these talented researchers. Enjoy your weekend, Anna Levy, deputy RN editorEnjoy getting ABC RN in your inbox? Invite your friends to sign up too! |
