... Australia has voted for change, and now the real work begins. The country faces myriad challenges: a lack of affordable housing; mounting disgust at the lack of accountability in federal politics; the desperate need for an unemployment payment at a liveable rate. And then there is the worsening climate crisis, with floods, fire and drought an ongoing reality. As the country begins a new chapter, the need for robust, rigorous journalism that highlights injustice, offers solutions, and holds leaders to their promises, is as great as ever. We have no shareholders or billionaire owner, meaning our journalism is free from commercial and political influence. This sets us apart. Our independence allows us to fearlessly investigate, challenge, and hold power to account, regardless of who wields it. And unlike others, we’ve decided to keep our journalism free for all readers, regardless of where they live or what they can afford to pay. In this way, all Australians can gain a deeper understanding of the forces shaping the country, and become inspired to take meaningful action. But we can’t do this on our own. If there were ever a time to support us, it is now. Every contribution, however big or small, will power our journalism as Australia confronts the challenges that lie ahead. |
