But these figures show that classical music has been crucial to many Australians in finding joy and enduring these unprecedented times. An October survey of radio audiences reveals that ABC Classic has its biggest audience since records began, with almost a million people tuning in every week across the five largest capital cities alone (Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Sydney).
