NASA is conducting final simulator tests of an unmanned air vehicle configured with programmed rules of behavior and an internalized set of values, which could pave the way for a new generation of safer autonomous and piloted aircraft.

At the heart of the evaluation is the NASA-developed Expandable Variable Autonomy Architecture (EVAA) software. The software is designed to prioritize human safety over preventing damage to property, and secondarily to prioritize damage prevention over mission completion.
