Babcock Building renovations begin after funding secured

Developer and building owner Clachan Properties closed on a federal loan that will finance $39 million of the estimated $55 million luxury apartment project last week. The first of five phases is set for completion in early 2022.

S.C. unemployment claims drop as extended benefits expire

The week ending Dec. 12, which saw initial 3,723 claims, was the last week of extended unemployment benefits in S.C. Two federal programs are also expiring Dec. 26. The three programs have paid out nearly $665 million since March 15.   

First vaccination allocation complete in S.C., more coming

As of Wednesday, the state had received 42,900 Pfizer vaccines. DHEC said states will continue to receive additional vaccinations each week, with South Carolina to receive between 200,000 and 300,000 doses by year's end.

United Way of the Midlands receives $10M donation

The gift was part of $4.2 billion donated to 384 nonprofits by MacKenzie Scott, an author and philanthropist formerly married to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos. The gift is the largest in the history of the organization, founded in 1925.
