They are very basic food and personal care items which most of us take for granted, when we place them in our shopping trolley. But what if you were a cancer patient from a low-income household struggling to pay for transport to treatment, or who had possibly lost your job due COVID-19? Then these items would be luxury items… CANSA knows that many of the cancer patients that we assist with emotional support and the side effects of treatment, battle financially too, making it harder for them to focus on their treatment and recovery. For this reason we try to assist patients with food and care packs consisting of basic items which they might not be able to afford, and will help take care of them and their families. This Mandela Day won’t you consider helping us reach more patients with food and care packs by making an online donation or providing items for our food and care packs, which may be dropped at local CANSA Care Centres? Individual wish lists for Care Homes and TLC Lodges available here: Care Homes | TLC Lodges. If you’re worried about COVID, and would rather not visit a Care Centre, encourage your family, friends and colleagues to donate R90 or more, commemorating CANSA’s 90th anniversary, and help cancer patients to make ends meet. How CANSA HelpsCANSA has been offering support services to cancer patients from all walks of life over the past 90 years, across the country. We provide accommodation to patients living far from treatment centres, including meals and transport to treatment centres, at our CANSA Care Homes or CANSA TLC Lodges (parents of children with cancer). CANSA’s service to cancer patients includes stoma clinics offering support regarding products, emotional support and advice and a free Tele Stoma support service; our free CANSA Tele Counselling service – cancer specific counselling offered in seven languages (English, Afrikaans, isiXhosa, isiZulu, siSwati, seSotho and Setswana); information and material for cancer patients and people living with underlying non-communicable diseases to protect themselves against COVID-19; and online support groups and resources for patients, caregivers and loved ones.
