SPARRING: Ashton Ryan Jr. sparred with a federal prosecutor Tuesday in an often testy interchange, as the former First NBC Bank CEO stuck to his story that the bank collapsed six years ago because of a combination of bad luck and panic, rather than the giant fraud scheme alleged by the government. Closing arguments in Ryan’s trial are expected Wednesday.
HAIL TO THE CHIEF: After a year of frosty relations between her predecessor and the New Orleans City Council, interim Police Superintendent Michelle Woodfork received a warmer welcome as she presented plans to reverse the surge in violent crime and hire more civilians to bolster a depleted force.
MINOR MATTER: Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry, who is running for governor, says the state needs a law to restrict what minors may check out of public libraries. One of Landry's critics called the plan a political stunt that panders to a “small group of bigots who want LGBTQ books out of our libraries.”
