Role reversal: St. Bernard saved from the side of a mountainWhen it comes to dog breeds, few have as stellar of a reputation as the St. Bernard. The stereotype of the heroic alpine rescue dog with barrels of brandy around its neck has become a classic depiction in pop culture, but a recent incident in England proves that sometimes even our protectors need protection. Daisy, a 121 pound St. Bernard hiking with her owner on England’s tallest mountain suffered a collapse as they descended from the peak. Apparently, her leg was in pain, and she was unable to go any further. But her quick-thinking owner was able to get a hold of emergency services to rescue her and bring her to safety. Her leg was patched up, she was given food and water, and she made a complete recovery. But her owner believes she’s no doubt embarrassed that she failed to live up to the legend. Big shoes to fill, no doubt. On the other hand, some rescue dogs probably deserve a rest after years of service. Tap or click here to see an adorable video of a rescue dog celebrating her retirement. → |
