Justice in 2020: Man pulled over in 2017 walks free after long battle What’s the dumbest reason you’ve ever received a ticket while driving? Some people will tell you stories of overzealous police officers pulling them over for things like broken lights, hanging bumpers, or lingering turn signals. But those have nothing on this case from North Carolina, where a driver was pulled over by a cop for flipping the bird while driving. According to the officer, the driver had been “disturbing the peace” with their gesture, which was allegedly flashed over a distance on the road. But the court found no evidence of any wrongdoing other than the offensive gesture. They hadn’t broken any traffic laws or committed any violations! The ACLU even sided with the driver, citing the middle finger as free and protected speech. That is, of course, if the allegations are true. Still, it might not be wise to exercise that free speech when a highway patrol officer is right outside your window. Some traffic cops don’t have the best reputation, but this one isn’t so bad.
